Planning on taking a trip to DisneyLand but worried about sulfite-free food?
So, you’ve planned a trip to Disney and you’re so excited. Then it hits you, what are you going to eat at the park? Will there be sulfite-free food options at Disneyland? Will you get sick from the food? Will you even be able to enjoy your trip?
I’ve also included tips if you have other intolerances or are on a plant-based diet.
I went to DisneyLand and was able to avoid sulfites but it was hard
I recently got to enjoy 3 fun-filled days at Disney Land and I’m about to share some of the best low sulfite options and tips.
If you suspected that the options for sulfite-free foods would be sparse at DisneyLand, you are not wrong. Generally, the food is made quickly, in high quantity, which usually means there are a lot of preservatives and additives. A lot of the food is also on the theme which can mean food coloring.
Here are my tips to stay low sulfite and still enjoy your trip to DisneyLand.
- Plan your meals if you need to limit sulfites. Eat a healthy, safe breakfast and pick a safe dinner to eat after you leave the park. This may mean searching restaurants before you even arrive in Anaheim. I started each day with oatmeal, lots of fruit, and some eggs. Finished the day with a safe dinner and went to bed satisfied.
- Pack a lot of snacks. My go-to was fresh apples and bananas that I grabbed from breakfast and Go Macro bars. Go Macro bars are great because they keep well and are filling.
- Use the Disney app to order your food ahead of time. When you open the menu, you can see pictures of the food and there are also tabs for allergy-friendly food. Sulfites are not included in these lists but Gluten, Soy, Dairy, and some others are. Using the app is also a lot quicker than walking to each in-park restaurant to look at the menu. if you can’t find specifications of the ingredient you need to avoid, ask to speak to a manager.
- Many of the meals at DisneyLand come with an option for Cutie Oranges as a side. This was perfect for me. I ordered 1 order of fries for the kids with their meal and the other side an orange for me.
Here were some of my favorite low sulfite, safer finds.
- Alien Pizza Planet had a very clean side salad. One day for lunch I had this and an orange.
- Galactic Grill was my favorite. I had a delicious and very satisfying Chopped Salad. The dressing comes on the side and honestly, I didn’t feel it needed dressing. You may choose to remove the red onions if you are sensitive.
- Galactic Grill also had a Plant-Based Veggie wrap. I chose not to get this because I wasn’t sure about the wraps or the ‘dairy-free’ cheese ingredients.
- There are carts with fresh fruit throughout the park. Pineapple, Mango and Watermelon. I tried all of them. They were all really yummy and felt refreshing on the hot days.
- I did not enjoy or feel safe with the Cobb salad at Flo’sV8.
Sulfite-free beverage options at Disneyland
If you’re sensitive to bottled water, like me, then there are almost no beverage options. Fortunately, there were plenty of water dispensers to refill my own water bottle.
Coffee: On Mainstreet, you’ll find Market House. In California Adventureland, you’ll find Joffrey’s Gourmet Coffee near Pixar Land.
I hope these tips help make your trip to DisneyLand more enjoyable. They say it’s the happiest place on earth, but if you’re hungry or getting sick from the food, it doesn’t feel so happy.
A few additional notes on sulfite-free foods at Disneyland
DisneyLand does allow people to take their own food in. Here are some of their tips for those with food allergies, intolerances or special dietary needs.
If you have questions, please feel free to email me or find me on Instagram and facebook.
I’ve been told you can email Disney Guest relations with questions about your specific dietary concerns ahead of time. This may be helpful if you plan out your meals ahead of time at the park. This can be done for allergies, intolerances and dietary restrictions.
If you find additional safe low sulfite foods at Disney, I’d love to hear about it.
Lastly, remember, we all have varying levels of tolerance. Please assess for yourself, each time you choose food for yourself.
